Careers Page: Configure a Custom Domain

This feature is only available on the Professional Tier

TE Recruit's Careers Page can be customized to reflect your brand by replacing the default "topechelon.com" portion from its URL, with a branded subdomain (for example, jobs.[company].com or careers.[company].com). This feature keeps your branding front and center, makes those pages appear to be hosted directly on your website, and delivers a more seamless experience for candidates. This process is commonly referred to as domain masking.

This two step process requires you to access your website's domain settings to create a new CNAME record first. Only then can you configure the Custom Domain in TE Recruit.

  3. Remove Custom Domain

Creating a New CNAME Record

To set up your custom domain in TE Recruit, you will first need to configure a record in your website’s domain settings. Although this step takes place outside of TE Recruit, you will need to gather one piece of information from TE Recruit before you can complete it.

Start by logging in to the DNS provider for your website (such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Hover, etc.). In your domain management tools, you will create a CNAME record that points a new subdomain (for example: jobs.yourcompany.com) to the following hostname: [agencyID].portals.topechelon.com, replacing [agencyID] with your TE Recruit Agency ID.

To obtain that Agency ID within TE Recruit:

  • Expand the Sidebar in the top right corner of the software and click on the Settings icon
  • Click to expand the Careers Page section and then select Manage Careers Page

  • Locate the Configure Custom Domain section towards the top of the page
  • Click the Configure Domain button

  • Locate the Copy CNAME field and click the Copy icon to the right

Now, you'll take that CNAME record over to your DNS provider - If you need help at this step, we have compiled a list of links to help articles from some of the most common DNS/website providers, below. We also recommend contacting your provider directly, as instructions will vary.

Once you've created a new CNAME record, you're ready to configure a custom domain for your TE Recruit Careers Page.

Configuring Your Custom Domain in TE Recruit

This step takes place in TE Recruit, and will "mask" your Careers Page URL with the subdomain you just created in the first step.

If you have not yet created a subdomain on your website's domain, please return to that step.

  • Expand the Sidebar in the top right corner of the software and click on the Settings icon
  • Click to expand the Careers Page section and then select Manage Careers Page

  • Locate the Configure Custom Domain section towards the top of the page
  • Click the Configure Domain button

  • Enter your new subdomain in the Enter Domain Hostname field (for example: jobs.yourdomain.com)
    • This must be a valid hostname
    • This must be a subdomain within your domain
  • Click the Verify button in the bottom right corner when complete

  • This will validate that your settings are correct and complete the masking process
    • If you receive an error at this step, review the corresponding error message and make any necessary corrections before retrying
  • When successful, you'll see a success slideout message along with the newly masked custom domain listed in the Careers Page Link card

Please note that once verified, it may take up to four hours for the new URL to load and display.

Removing a Custom Domain

Once you have configured a Custom Domain in TE Recruit, you may remove it if desired. This will return your Careers Page URL to the original topechelon.com hosted domain.

Please be aware that removing this configuration will break any links that point to your Careers Page at the previously-configured subdomain. Make sure to update your website any time you make changes to this configuration, and be aware that existing links you might have sent or posted elsewhere online will become inaccessible.

  • Expand the Sidebar in the top right corner of the software and click on the Settings icon
  • Click to expand the Careers Page section and then select Manage Careers Page

  • Locate the Configure Custom Domain section towards the top of the page
  • Click the Remove Domain button
  • In the confirmation prompt, review the corresponding warning and if you're certain that you want to remove the Custom Domain, click the Delete button
  • To configure a new Custom Domain, you may repeat the steps above
