Using Zapier with TE Recruit's Open API

This feature is only available on the Professional Tier

Zapier is a no-code automation platform that enables users to create automated workflows, called "Zaps," which move information between apps automatically. By connecting to TE Recruit's Open API, you can build integrations within Zapier that move information between an external platform and your TE Recruit account.

The ability to create an integration is restricted to only those users that have the proper permission

Build an Integration

If you do not already have a Zapier account, you will need to create one prior to following these steps.

  1. Visit https://www.zapier.com, hover your mouse over the plus icon at the top left of your screen, choose More, and then Developer platform.

  1. Click My Integrations at the top right of your screen, and choose Start a Zapier Integration

  1. Fill in all of the fields for name, description, URL, intended audience, role, and category. Once those are filled in, click the Create button at the bottom right of your screen.

  1. Click the Set Up Authentication button, and choose OAuth v2

  1. Click the dropdown for Step 2, copy Zapier's OAuth Redirect URL, and click Continue at the bottom right.

  1. In TE Recruit, navigate to Settings > Top Echelon API > Manage API Integrations, and click on Create New Integration.

  1. In the Create New API Integration panel, fill out all the required fields and click Save at the bottom right of your screen.
    • Integration Name - this will be the name of the Integration that users will see when authenticating and giving permission for the Integration to access their TE Recruit data
      • Integration Name can be whatever you like, but "Zapier" would be a good choice in this example
    • Scopes - this specifies whether the Integration will be able to Read and/or Write data within TE Recruit
      • Select at least one Scope
    • Redirect URI - this is the URL that you copied from Zapier in Step 5, above

  1. A modal will open providing you with your Client ID, Client Secret, Authorize URL, and Token URL
    • IMPORTANT: This modal is the ONLY place you will be able to access the Client Secret for your new Integration, so copy the Client Secret immediately and store it securely
    • Client ID, Authorize URL, and Token URL will all be accessible/copyable later, but this is your ONLY opportunity to copy your Client Secret
    • If you fail to copy your Client Secret, or misplace it, you will have to repeat this process to create a new Integration

  1. Back in Zapier, click the dropdown for Step 3 and paste your Client ID and Client Secret into the corresponding fields. Click Save & Continue at the bottom right of your screen when you are finished.

  1. Expand Step 4 and paste in the Authorization URL and Token URL that you obtained in step 8.

  1. Click the checkbox under Automatically Refresh Token, and enter https://bb3api.topechelon.com/public/v1/activity_types into the Test field. Click Save & Continue at the bottom right.

  1. Expand the dropdown for Step 5 and click the Connect to Top Echelon button.

  1. A window will popup asking you to allow Zapier to access your TE Recruit account. Click Authorize.

  1. Click the Test Authentication button. If the request is successful, click Save & Finish at the bottom right.
